conflict draft final

In what ways does my product use or challenge the conventions of existing products

During our pre production we looked at many similar films and existing products in order to gather inspiration and as such they have influenced our final product, we looked mainly at titles such as Shank and Kidulthood both films take place in South London and centre around urban youths, in these existing products like my own there is a conflict that surrounds the main protagonist usually centred around violent gangs.
On the left is the existing product Shank and the right my product Conflict, as well as similar themes and story, both are gritty dramas which are usually shot in darker lighting we used this technique as well in order to give a darker image and impression of the story and characters. Rather then challenge we followed the conventions of this genre in order to create a product that we know has a solid market and audience as we wanted our piece to be well received.

How did I attract/address my target audience?

To attract my audience I referred back to my initial audience research in order to find the preferences and interest of my main target market, I found that my target audience were regular users of mediums like youtube, by making use of this I can attract my audience to my product with ease because of its frequent use.  Knowing that my target audience is interested in urban dramas and would be likely to view my product I created a poster profile of our protagonist and film title in order to attract an audience and raise awareness of our product.

I addressed the the audience through the use of familiar conventions that they can relate to within my product using familiar locations, familair mise-en-scene such as hoodies and urban attire, the animated tet that we used at the end of the product I feel is very striking and attracts the viewers interest right at the end.

Who would be the audience for your product?

This is Frances Morgan she is 17 and lives in South London, she enjoys listening to R&B, British and American rap, Reggae and Jazz she enjoys shopping, dancing, and spending time with her friends.
She enjoys films such as Kidulthood, Adulthood, Shank, The Godfather, Layer Cake, and the Business as she enoys gangster and action films and has an interest in new British films, especially going to the cinema and enjoying them with her peers. Her favourite shows are Eastenders, Waterloo Road, Hollyoaks, and other popular shows.
I believe our product would appeal to the demographic that she fits into as a stereotypical urban youth from London who would be able to engage, understand as well as enjoy our product as it is similar to other films she enjoys such as Shank and Kidulthood and she would be likely to see it at the cinema because it would show at her local screens.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The institutions most likely to distribute our media product would be smaller British film institutions such as Vertigo films or Revolver entertainment because these institutions both distribute and produce niche and alternate films and have experience producing urban British productions already such as Kidulthood, Adulthood and Bronson, both institutions are involved in the distribution of low budget British films in order to help the British film market and so would be able to help market and distribute our production as we would have very limited means to do so ourselves.

How does your product represent particular social groups

Under the age of 25 who is unemployed for 12 months will either be offered a new job or put into training.

The social group that is depicted throughout our production are are urban gangland youths, we conveyed this image to our audience through our use of mise-en-scene including their clothing which consisted mainly of hoodies, dark clothing and accessories such as bandannas. The top photo is a character shot from from our production and the bottom a photo taken from the times newspaper in an article related to gang culture, you can see that they are very similar as both figures are wearing dark hoodies and are against a street wall with similar postures this shows that we portrayed the social group the same way that the real media does we did this because this is the stereotypical representation of gang culture which is often shown in the media as it it is a pressing issue in Britain which allows our audience to engage with our characters.

Looking back at your preliminary task. what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the final product
